The groundbreaking posthumous album, Dreaming of You, from Tejano music icon Selena Quintanilla-Perez is being reintroduced to the world with a remastered and remixed 30th-anniversary edition, releasing on July 18, 2025 — exactly three decades after its original debut. The commemorative release honors Selena’s enduring legacy and her historic crossover into the mainstream music scene.
Originally released in 1995, just months after her tragic passing, Dreaming of You made history by debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, marking the first time a predominantly Spanish-language album topped the all-genre chart. The record blended English-language tracks like “I Could Fall in Love” and the iconic title song “Dreaming of You” with beloved Spanish-language hits such as “Amor Prohibido,” “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom,” and “Como La Flor.” It quickly became a cultural and commercial phenomenon, breaking first-day and first-week sales records for a female artist and eventually becoming the highest-certified Latin album of all time by the RIAA (62x Platinum).
To celebrate the album’s milestone anniversary, this remastered edition offers fans a richer and cleaner listening experience, thanks to cutting-edge audio enhancements by a world-class production team that includes Robert Gomez III, Serban Ghenea, Gustavo Celis, Happy Perez, and Brian “RED” Moore. Final mastering was handled by acclaimed engineer Randy Merrill, with Selena’s siblings, Suzette Quintanilla and A.B. Quintanilla III, overseeing the project.
In a recent SiriusXM town hall interview, Suzette Quintanilla opened up about the emotional process of revisiting the album three decades later.
“When Dreaming of You came out, I didn’t care. I was too much lost in my grief. I didn’t know day or night,” she shared. “And then I learned to love it and to understand what it represents. It hurt for a very long time to be able to listen to this album. But as time went by, I understood. I embraced that this is what Sister left behind.”
The anniversary edition, which is available on digital platforms today, reflects that deep connection, not only in the music but also in the packaging. Suzette poured her heart into the visual design and artwork.
“I worked extremely hard… to honor this last album that Sister did and left us. It’s super special to me.”
A Collector’s Dream: Formats and Features
Fans and collectors will be able to pre-order the 30th-anniversary edition beginning July 18, with shipping starting August 18. The release will be available in multiple formats:
- Vinyl: Four special versions — an original-style design with foil detailing, a collectible picture disc, and Amazon and Target exclusives.
- CD: A remastered compact disc edition for traditional collectors.
- Cassette: A nostalgic throwback for longtime fans, featuring updated packaging.
In addition to preserving the magic of the original recordings, the remastering process has brought new life to Selena’s voice and music.
“It’s so crisp and so clean,” Suzette noted. “When I was comparing the original, I would listen to the remastered version… then I would kick in the original version. Oh my God — so night and day.”
