After a four-year break from the music scene, rising Tejano star Hailyn Bella is back with her infectious new cumbia single, “Lavándome.” The singer took time off to grieve the passing of her father, Salvador Bella, who died from complications of COVID-19 in August 2021. Now, she’s ready to share her journey of resilience, healing, and empowerment through music.

Teaming up with The Klubjumpers—the San Antonio-based production duo of Sam Michaels and Dan Mathews, known for over 80 Billboard charting songs and multiple Gold and Platinum Records—Hailyn says she finally has the right team to make her dreams a reality

“This is what I always dreamed about,” she told Tejano Nation. “What I always wanted was to be an artist full time. And I’m really giving my all—focusing on it and being a role model. Like, hey, if you just keep going, you’re eventually going to get there. Just don’t give up, no matter how crazy it looks.”

The Laredo native is proud to represent both her hometown and her adopted city of San Antonio.

“I’m excited to represent 956 and 210,” she shared. “I’m super proud of my roots in Laredo and being able to showcase that. I moved to San Antonio when I was 17 to go to school, and that’s where I grew up and became a business owner. Now, coming full circle and moving back to Laredo, it’s really cool to see it all come together.”

Returning to music wasn’t easy after losing her father.

“Everybody’s grieving process is different,” Hailyn said. “I wrote a letter to my dad and told him, ‘I’m ready now.’ It’s been almost four years, and I can do this. It’s not so scary to go into the studio without him cheering me on because he’s still here—it’s just in a different way. And as soon as I decided that, everything just… boom. The floodgates opened.”

“Lavándome” is more than just a song; it’s a cleanse, a reset—a cumbia that washes away the weight of what no longer serves you.

“I wanted to start with a cumbia and remind people that when good music plays, you have to move your body! It’s pretty hard to be miserable while listening to this one,” Hailyn explained. “Sprinkle in a little Spanglish, hype lyrics, and make it fun—a jam you can share with the whole family.”

She imagined her tías dancing and requesting “la de Lavándome,” making it a flirty anthem or even a Saturday morning cleaning jam, just like the ones our moms used to blast while scrubbing the house.

“That was my goal—to write something that brings people together, uplifts anyone going through it, and delivers a catchy hook that celebrates being clean. It can even be flirty with your lover, like lavándolo contra la pared, lol,” she laughed.

This is the first of three singles released by Hailyn, with plans for a full album dropping on October 10th. The album promises exciting collaborations with other artists and will be a genre-blending tribute to her Tejano roots, fused with pop and other sounds that showcase her versatility.

“Don’t put me in a box,” she declared. “I can do anything—Tejano, pop, Latin pop, English pop. Nobody controls me, and I’m at that place right now. I’ve got an amazing team behind me, and we’re going to deliver the most amazing product and gift it to the world.”

“Lavándome” is available now on all digital platforms.
