Corpus Christi, TX — A new era begins for Tejano music icons David Lee Garza y Los Musicales as they officially join the Freddie Records family. The announcement, made on Tuesday (June 24), celebrates the band’s remarkable legacy spanning more than four decades and 31 albums, including a Grammy, two Latin Grammys, and countless memorable performances.
David Lee Garza, known for his signature accordion style and unmatched contribution to Tejano music, reflected on the band’s journey from their early days in Poteet, Texas. “We started playing weddings and parties in and around Poteet back in the late ’60s as David Lee Garza y Su Conjunto,” Garza shared. “By 1978, we added a saxophone and electric guitar and recorded our first album under the name David Lee Garza y Los Musicales. I’ve been leading this band now for 45 years, and we’re still going strong.”
Joining Freddie Records fulfills a long-held dream for Garza. “For years I would see all these great artists recording for Freddie, and I said, ‘One day, we will be part of the Freddie Records family.’ That day is finally here,” he said.
Freddie Records Co-President of Operations and Artist Relations, Freddie Martinez, Jr., called the signing a major milestone for the label. “We’re thrilled to welcome the legendary David Lee Garza y Los Musicales to the label. They are without a doubt one of the greatest Tejano groups of all time. Through years of hard work and dedication in the studio and on the road, they’ve created a unique sound and style that’s all their own. Couple that with the accordion virtuosity of David Lee Garza and their sound is undeniable. There’s no one else that sounds like DLG y Los Musicales.”
The band is already hard at work on their first release under Freddie Records, with a new album expected later this summer. A single and video are in the works and will be announced soon. Fans can look forward to music that continues their tradition of heartfelt, dance-driven Tejano that resonates across generations.
“We want to keep making people dance,” Garza added. “This new production with Freddie Records feels special, and I believe fans old and new are going to hear that.”
