A new controversy has emerged in the world of Música Mexicana as Brian Ortega, the bassist for the chart-topping Grupo Frontera, announced his unexpected departure from the group in a heartfelt message shared on social media.
Ortega, who joined the band in mid-2021 and played a key role during the group’s rise to international fame, revealed in an Instagram post that he was let go without any prior discussion or involvement in the decision. The musician expressed his surprise and disappointment while also sharing gratitude for the time he spent with the band.
“To my fans, friends, and everyone who has supported me along the way:
I feel it’s only right to clear the air. I recently learned I would no longer be part of Grupo Frontera. This decision was not made by me, and I had no voice in how it was handled. And I’m sure like many of you, I’m surprised as well,” Ortega wrote.
Despite the abrupt nature of his departure, Ortega remained gracious, thanking his former bandmates for the three and a half years they spent together and for the opportunity to contribute to the group’s sound and success.
“Even so, I hold nothing but gratitude for the years, the music, and all the moments I shared with my former bandmates. I want to thank them for these last three and a half years and for the opportunity to be a part of something that grew immensely and allowing me to create in what is known today as Grupo Frontera,” he added.
Ortega made it clear that his journey in music is far from over, hinting at future projects already in the works.
“To my fans: please know that this is not the end for me and far from it. I’m excited for what’s next and already working on plans with amazing people and more news that I’ll share as the time comes.”
Ortega originally joined Grupo Frontera following the departure of founding bassist Carlos Zamora, during the early stages of the group’s breakout hit “No Se Va.” Since then, he became an integral part of the band’s signature sound during its meteoric rise.
As of now, Grupo Frontera has not publicly addressed Ortega’s statement nor announced who will be stepping in as the new bassist. Fans across social media have shared messages of support for Ortega, praising his professionalism and looking forward to his next chapter.
