The Forever Jimmy G Foundation has officially announced the return of the highly anticipated Forever Jimmy G Music Fest, set to take place on Saturday, September 6 at the Los Fresnos Rodeo Grounds in Los Fresnos, Texas. The announcement was made via social media, inviting fans, families, and the Tejano community to “be a part of the excitement and join us for a celebration of music, community, and culture.”
The family-friendly event will feature live performances, dancing, food and drinks, local vendors, and a vibrant community atmosphere—all in honor of the late Jimmy Gonzalez, the Grammy Award-winning Tejano icon and co-founder of the legendary Grupo Mazz.
The foundation is currently welcoming local vendors, artisans, food trucks, and small businesses to participate in this year’s celebration. Organizers are encouraging early involvement from the community and have provided a contact email for inquiries about performances and vendor opportunities: ForeverJimmyG@gmail.com.

The music festival first debuted in June 2019 in Brownsville, Texas, one year after Gonzalez’s passing in June 2018. However, plans for a second annual event were canceled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year marks the long-awaited revival of the beloved tribute event.
Founded to continue the legacy of Jimmy Gonzalez, the Forever Jimmy G Foundation is committed to using music to uplift and unite communities. “Our mission is simple,” reads a statement from the organization, “to inspire generosity, unite communities, and honor Jimmy’s legacy—Forever Jimmy G.”
The foundation’s first charitable initiative will benefit a local food bank, helping to provide essential meals for families in need across the region. Future projects will continue to reflect the values Jimmy championed throughout his life—supporting families, sharing culture, and keeping Tejano music alive for generations to come.
Gonzalez’s impact on the Tejano genre is immeasurable. Since co-founding Grupo Mazz with Joe Lopez in 1978, he helped revolutionize the sound of Tejano with innovative fusions of pop, R&B, and rock. With a soulful voice, signature guitar style, and masterful production, Gonzalez earned six Latin Grammy Awards, one Grammy Award, and the most Tejano Music Awards of any artist.
Even after the original lineup of Grupo Mazz split, Gonzalez continued to make chart-topping music as Jimmy Gonzalez y Grupo Mazz, remaining a dominant force in Tejano until his passing in 2018.
The Forever Jimmy G Music Fest promises to be more than just a tribute—it’s a living testament to the power of music, community, and the enduring legacy of one of Tejano’s greatest legends.
