KATY, TX — The legacy of Tejano music legend Emilio Navaira will be celebrated tonight (Aug. 22) in Katy, Texas, as his sons, Emilio Navaira IV and Diego Navaira, take the stage for The Official Emilio Tribute at the Texas Rodeo Saloon.
This weekend would have marked the 63rd birthday of the Grammy-winning Tejano icon, who passed away in 2016 at the age of 53 from a heart attack. Nearly a decade later, his music continues to inspire fans around the world, carried forward by the next generation.
Emilio IV and Diego have spent the past few years paying tribute to their father at concerts across Texas, keeping alive the songs that defined an era. For the brothers, the shows are more than performances—they’re a way of connecting fans to the powerful spirit of their father’s music.
“I think that it’s a celebration of my dad. It’s a celebration for the fans as well,” said Diego. “They can expect to hear the music that they grew up on. I think that they will find themselves dancing in the aisle as well. Emilio added, “It always gives me chills and almost brings me to tears because it takes music, which is already emotional, to a whole different emotional level.”
Fans can expect a night filled with classic hits from the late superstar, anthems that earned him the nickname “El Rey del Rodeo” and made him one of the most beloved voices in Tejano history.
The free tribute concert is for ages 21 and up only, with doors opening at 8 p.m. at Texas Rodeo Saloon, 531 S Mason Rd, Katy, TX. Limited tables are available for reservation at texasrodeosaloon.com.
