Legendary singer-songwriter Humberto “Beto” Ramon, whose music has defined generations of Tejano fans, was injured in a fatal crash late Thursday afternoon (Aug. 22), according to a statement shared on his official Facebook page.
“Beto Sr. was hit head-on by an oncoming vehicle in Jim Wells County,” the statement revealed. “We extend our heartfelt sympathy and prayers for the family of the other driver involved who succumbed to his injuries. Beto is in stable condition, and by the grace of God, suffered only minor injuries. He is going to take time to heal from the impact trauma.”
The Ramon family also thanked fans and friends for their support during this difficult time. “We thank his many concerned friends, family members, and fans for the much-needed prayers you’ve sent his way. God is still in the miracle business, and we give Him thanks for ours. We ask that you allow Beto time to rest, and please continue to keep him in your prayers.”

A true legend in Tejano music, Ramon is celebrated for writing timeless classics performed by some of the genre’s biggest stars, including Jimmy Gonzalez and Mazz, Laura Canales, Ramon Ayala, Jay Perez, and La Diferenzia. His first Tejano Music Award came with the Songwriter of the Year honor for his composition “Que Me Lleven Canciones,” launching a career that would earn him 11 Tejano Music Awards throughout the 1990s.
Ramon’s remarkable contributions also include six Latin Grammy certificates for his work with Jimmy Gonzalez y Grupo Mazz and Roger Velásquez and The Latin Legends. His talent has been honored by the Texas Talent Musicians Association, ASCAP, Univision Latin Music Awards, the Pura Vida Awards, Midwest Tejano Music Awards, Tejano ROOTS Hall of Fame, and countless others. In 2023, he was recognized with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 43rd annual Tejano Music Awards.
With over 450 registered recordings with ASCAP, Ramon’s songs have been recorded by icons such as Ram Herrera, Bobby Pulido, and Ruben Ramos, as well as the new generation of Tejano voices like Isabel Marie Sanchez and Laura Denisse.
As Ramon recovers, the Tejano community is uniting in prayer and gratitude for the survival of one of its greatest treasures—an artist whose words and music continue to inspire and resonate across decades.
