Louisville City Council Pass "Breonna's Law" Banning No-Knock Warrants

Yesterday, all 26 members of Louisville Metro City Council voted to ban no-knock warrants, passing "Breonna's Law."

"The unanimously passed ordinance, which still needs to be approved by the mayor, bans any search warrant that does not require police to announce themselves and their purpose at the premises. It requires any Louisville Metro Police Department or Metro law enforcement to knock and wait a minimum of 15 seconds for a response."

If you are not familiar with Breonna's story, I am going to sum it up for you real quick. On the night of March 13th, Breonna was asleep in her home when she was fatally shot by police who were there serving a "no-knock" warrant. These officers were in the wrong home and have not been charged.

Details.
