After stepping away from the spotlight for more than a decade, Tejano singer-songwriter Roxanne Treviño is making a powerful comeback with her new single, “Mi Amor Verdadero,” marking the beginning of a new chapter fueled by life experience, resilience, and creative freedom.

The Divine, Texas native recently sat down with Tejano 95.7 FM morning host Jonny Ramirez to open up about her return to music after nearly 13 years away from the industry.

“I’m back. Full force. Full force,” Treviño said during the interview. When Ramirez joked about her being “110 percent” committed, she quickly replied, “One thousand percent.”

Treviño first introduced herself to Tejano fans in 2014 with her debut album Desperté Soñando, a project that included collaboration from legendary accordionist David Lee Garza. Although proud of the album, life circumstances prevented her from fully promoting the release.

“My grandfather had been diagnosed with cancer,” she shared. “I had just immediately decided that I was going to help take care of him and my grandmother too. So I devoted my time alongside my mom, trying to make sure he was okay and taken care of. And it was a privilege.”

While music was temporarily put on hold, Treviño built a career as a nurse, working more than 20 years as an LVN and currently serving in corrections nursing.

“Lots of overtime,” she laughed when asked how she funded her new project.

Despite her demanding career in healthcare, music never left her heart.

“A day hasn’t gone by that I don’t dream about music,” Treviño said in her artist bio.

Now, the singer affectionately known by peers as “The Spanish Rose” is returning with a brand-new album made up entirely of original songs she wrote herself. The upcoming project blends Tejano roots with influences from Outlaw Country, Regional Mexican, cumbia, mariachi, corridos, R&B, and Norteño music, showcasing her versatility as both a vocalist and songwriter.

“I’ve written every song for this album,” Treviño revealed during the interview. “We’re kind of picking out the title for the album.”

So far, four tracks have been completed, with a tentative release window set for late summer. Fans can also expect physical CDs in addition to digital streaming platforms.

“Oh no, no,” she said. “They’ll be able to touch it and hold it.”

The project is being produced entirely by acclaimed musician and producer Hugo Guerrero, whom Treviño credits as a major creative force behind her renewed confidence and evolving sound.

“He’s amazing,” she said. “His talent knows no bounds. We’ve been working together on this project. He’s kind of like, I’m thinking it and he says it kind of collaboration.”

Treviño explained that this new music feels more authentic and personal than ever before.

“The sound that we’re giving… this is actually my rhythm, my groove, my feel,” she said. “So to me, it’s going to be all different, but mine.”

Unlike her first album experience, Treviño says she’s now embracing the creative process without pressure.

“The pressure is off of me,” she explained. “This time I think I’m free so I can enjoy the help behind the board, watching that happen and creating and listening to what’s coming back out of the speakers. And just to know that it’s mine — it’s my stuff. These are words that I wrote.”

Growing up in Divine, Treviño says she was inspired by iconic female Tejano artists including Selena, Laura Canales, Shelly Lares, Patsy Torres, Elida Reyna, and Stefani Montiel.

Today, she hopes to inspire a new generation of women in Tejano music.

“Girl power all the way,” Treviño said. “I’m very happy that girls are actually coming out and showing their stuff and rocking it. It’s important. We need to be just as much a part of the music business and make our contribution as well.”

With “Mi Amor Verdadero” now introducing fans to her refreshed sound and more music on the horizon, Roxanne Treviño’s long-awaited return is proving that some dreams never fade.

Her message to fans remains simple and powerful:

“Never, ever stop dreaming, or fighting for what you love.”
