How To Keep Your Jack-O-Lanterns from Rotting

We spend so much time and energy making sure we have the coolest jack-o-lanterns on the block, it's such a shame to see them rot so quickly!

If you want to keep yours nice and fresh for as long as you can, check out these tips from PopSugar!

  • Choose Your Pumpkin Carefully: Ask yourself these questions - Does the pumpkin have bruises? Is it discolored? Are there dents or any deep cuts that already expose the pumpkin's innards? Signs of damage mean it's more likely that the pumpkin will have a shorter lifespan.
  • Be Mindful of How You Carve: Keeping the guts of your jack-o'-lantern can create moisture inside the pumpkin, which can cause your pumpkin to rot within a few days. It's better to try and hollow out your pumpkin as much as possible.
  • Spray Your Pumpkin With Water and Apple Cider Vinegar: Using apple cider vinegar is a natural way to help preserve and cleanse your pumpkin.
  • Use Fake Candles: Real candles just dry out the inside of a pumpkin, making it die faster. Instead, try fake candles!
  • Place Your Pumpkin Somewhere Dry: Placing your jack-o-lantern somewhere extremely humid will make it get moldy and rot, instead keep it somewhere dry and off the ground to avoid an invasion from pests.
