This story ends up having a happy ending . . . mostly. A couple in San Diego named Brittany and Wyland Szabo got married in 2011 when they were in their early 20s. And unfortunately, they decided to get divorced in 2019.
They've both had issues with alcohol, and relapsed. So that was part of what prompted the divorce. But they were also going through other stuff.
For a while, they only communicated through lawyers. But Brittany ended up going back to rehab, and they're both sober again. She's hasn't had a drink for almost two years.
Meanwhile, they started seeing a therapist to help them co-parent. They have three kids together.
And while that was going on, they reconnected . . . figured things out . . . and decided NOT to get divorced. They're back together now and say they've never been happier.
But here's the rough part. Even though they never finalized their divorce, they still owed their lawyers . . . about $100,000. (!!!) So it put them in serious debt.
They say they don't regret anything, because it eventually led them back to each other. And they feel like there's nothing their relationship couldn't survive now. But still, it'll take a while to pay it all off.
