The excitement continues to build for the 45th Annual Tejano Music Awards as two more iconic names have been added to the performance lineup — Grammy-nominated band Avizo and Tejano pioneer Johnny Hernandez, who will also be honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at this year’s ceremony.
The Texas Talent Musicians Association (TTMA) made the announcement on Monday (Oct. 27), revealing that the two Tejano powerhouses will join a growing list of performers that already includes Ram Herrera, Monica Saldivar, Lucky Joe, Da Krazy Pimpz, David Olivarez, The Homeboyz, and El Plan. Together, they promise an unforgettable night celebrating Tejano music’s rich heritage and bright future.

Formed in 1984 by trumpeter Robert Dorantes, Houston-based Avizo has long been known as “Houston’s Powerhouse.”The group’s distinctive horn-driven sound pays homage to Tejano’s traditional roots while embracing modern influences. Dorantes founded the band as a response to the growing trend of electronic instrumentation in Tejano, choosing instead to keep the spirit of live horns alive. Today, Avizo continues to thrive with a dynamic blend of horns, keyboards, and accordion that defines their energetic and authentic style.

Meanwhile, Johnny Hernandez stands as one of the genre’s true pioneers. As an original member of The Latinaires and Little Joe y La Familia, Hernandez helped shape the foundation of modern Tejano and Chicano music. With a career spanning more than five decades, his influence continues to resonate across generations of artists and fans alike.
Adding even more excitement to this year’s celebration, beloved comedian Alex Reymundo will host the prestigious event, bringing his trademark humor and charisma to what’s known as the “Biggest Night in Tejano Music.”
This year marks a historic milestone for the Tejano Music Awards, as the ceremony moves from its longtime home in San Antonio—the “Tejano Music Capital of the World”—to Katy, Texas, for the first time in many years. Fans can look forward to an evening filled with electrifying performances, heartfelt tributes, and special collaborations honoring both legends and rising stars.
The night will begin with a red carpet event from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m., followed by the awards ceremony at 7:00 p.m. at the Texas Rodeo Saloon in Katy. Tables for the event sold out in under 72 hours, but general admission tickets are still available.
Since its inception in 1980, the Tejano Music Awards, produced by the Texas Talent Musicians Association (TTMA), has served as a cornerstone of Tejano culture—recognizing excellence and preserving the genre’s deep cultural roots. The nonprofit organization continues its mission to promote Tejano music, bridging communities and generations across the U.S. and beyond.
