Tejano fans may soon have another reason to visit the GRAMMY Museum in Los Angeles. Chris Pérez, the Grammy-winning guitarist and widower of Selena Quintanilla-Pérez, revealed in a recent interview with FOX 26 Houston reporter Coco Dominguez that the museum is planning to build a special Selena exhibit.

“I think I can talk about this,” Pérez said in a clip shared on TikTok. “The GRAMMY Museum in Los Angeles is going to build a Selena exhibit. They’re going to have a lot of her outfits. I believe they’re going to have the microphone that’s at Q Productions now. They’re going to have a couple of my guitars — the one with her face painted on it, and then the one that I actually used to record all of Amor Prohibido, the whole record. So, Bidi Bidi Bom Bom was recorded with that other guitar. That’s going to be there. And they have various items that they’re going to have up. And it’s only temporary, so if you guys get a chance, go check it out, because it’s only going to be there for a couple of months, I think.”

When asked about the value of his guitars, Pérez simply replied, “Oh, they’re priceless.”

While the GRAMMY Museum has not yet officially announced the exhibit, fans are hopeful the Selena display will open soon. Currently, no dedicated Selena exhibit is active at the museum’s main location in Los Angeles, though the news from Pérez has sparked excitement across the Tejano community.

Selena won her first Grammy for Best Mexican American Album for her live album, Selena Live! This marked a significant achievement in her career and for the Tejano music genre, as she was the first female artist to win in this category. In 2021, Selena was posthumously honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Grammy Awards, recognizing her lasting impact on music and culture.

For those eager to see Selena memorabilia right now, there are several other locations honoring her enduring legacy. The Selena Museum in Corpus Christi, Texas — operated by the Quintanilla family — showcases her GRAMMY Award, stage outfits, and personal artifacts. Recent exhibitions such as Selena Forever/Siempre Selena at the El Paso Museum of Art and The Selena Effect at Texas State University’s Wittliff Collections also celebrate her cultural and musical impact.

The GRAMMY Museum currently features a vibrant fourth-floor exhibit highlighting the history of the Latin GRAMMY Awards and the rich diversity of Latin music. That display includes red carpet and performance outfits, instruments, and footage of iconic Latin GRAMMY performances.

Exhibit highlights include:

  • The white-and-blue wig worn by Celia Cruz at the 2003 Latin GRAMMYs
  • Jenni Rivera’s red Roberto Cavalli dress
  • Pepe Aguilar’s charro suit
  • Christina Aguilera’s custom black dress from the 2022 Latin GRAMMYs
  • Rauw Alejandro’s red leather outfit from his 2023 Latin GRAMMY performance
  • Instruments played by Intocable, including a bajo sexto and accordion

If the GRAMMY Museum’s Selena exhibit comes to fruition, it would join these tributes in honoring the life and music of “The Queen of Cumbia.” Fans everywhere are hopeful The Recording Academy will soon make the official announcement — a fitting recognition of Selena’s lasting influence on music and culture.
