Tejano icon Elida Reyna joined Domingo Live co-hosts Rudy Treviño and Barbi Leo on Sunday (Oct. 12) to discuss her ongoing farewell tour, her faith, and her remarkable three-decade career in Tejano music.
With only five shows left, Elida shared that the experience has been both emotional and uplifting. “I’ve broken down a few times already, yeah, um, but for the most part exciting,” she admitted. “I’m just trying to live in the moment and just enjoy every minute. Because I know I only have 5 shows left to go.”
Her grand finale is set for December 12 at the Majestic Theatre in San Antonio, which she promises will be a celebration for all. “Everyone’s invited. Yeah, that’ll be the last hurrah,” she said with a smile.
A Spiritual Calling and Family Focus
Elida revealed that her decision to step away from touring stems from a deep spiritual calling and a desire to focus on family. “I just feel like I’ve had a calling lately to follow Christ, and it’s been in my heart for a long time,” she explained. “I feel like I have a calling to serve the public as well, but in a spiritual way.”
She also shared the importance of spending time with loved ones, especially her parents and grandchildren. “My dad was diagnosed with dementia not too long ago, and I still have both of my parents. I wanna enjoy my time with them,” Elida said. “I don’t wanna have any regrets that I’m too busy on the road. I’m an only child too, so it’s really important to me to spend quality time with them.”
After dedicating more than 30 years to her music career, Elida said it’s time to give her attention to her family and faith. “Now it’s time to give my attention to my family and also to serve others,” she added. “It’s really important — I have, like Bobby [Pulido], a calling to do that.”
Looking Back on a Legendary Career
When asked by Domingo Live co-host Barbi Leo what she’s most proud of, Elida reflected with gratitude and peace. “I don’t feel like I have anything to prove to anybody,” she said. “I’ve surpassed what I thought I could do — two Latin Grammys, I mean, who can say that? I’m just so proud of that.”
Elida added that while she’s proud of her musical achievements, she’s also embracing a new chapter. “I’m so proud now to be a grandma and to be at home spending time with my plants,” she laughed. “Have I done everything I wanted to do? Definitely. I’ve performed around the world, I’ve met wonderful people, and I’ve made lifelong friends who’ve become family.”

The Next Chapter: Faith and Music
While she’s stepping away from the road, Elida said she isn’t done making music entirely. “It’s in me. I mean, the music is in me,” she said. “I would love to record some Christian music in the future.”
Elida also sent love to her longtime label, Freddie Records, recalling how her relationship with the company began nearly 20 years ago. “I wanna send a shout out to Freddie Records and Freddie and all the family,” she said. “I was pregnant when we signed with Freddie — and he didn’t know! We signed the papers first, and then I told him, ‘Oh, by the way, Freddie, I’m pregnant.’”

Before her final curtain call, Elida promised that her remaining shows will be filled with special moments. “We will be announcing them probably a week or two before the show,” she teased. “A lot of great surprises, so it’s gonna be fun.”
